2005 NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK
This year’s National Volunteer Week will be
celebrated from Sunday, April 17 through Saturday, April 23.
National Volunteer Week began in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an
executive order establishing the week as an annual celebration of volunteerism.
Every President since then has signed a proclamation promoting National
Volunteer Week as a time to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers at
local, state and national levels. The Points of Light Foundation estimates that
64 million Americans – and 32% of Connecticut residents – volunteer in their
community each year.
United Way of the Capital Area salutes all those who give of their time and
talents to our community, and celebrates National Volunteer Week with
presentation of its annual Dr. Frederick G. Adams Award and other activities.
