Before the Campaign

Read through this guide and the campaign
materials

 
 
Hang posters and place tent cards in common areas

Hold a kickoff event and announce your campaign
goal

Visit www.uwcact.org and bookmark “Campaign
Tookit”
 
 
 
Mark your calendar with important dates  
During the Campaign
Consider a Day of Caring project for your
organization’s employees
 
Lead by example. Make your own pledge and
reference it when making the case for giving
Study your organization’s previous campaign
results and meet with last year’s campaign
coordinator
 
Distribute brochures, other educational materials,
send voice or e-mails from CEO or top management
Recruit a steering committee with representatives
from all divisions/departments
 
Show the campaign video and/or have agency
speakers at group meetings or in lunch or break
room
Meet with United Way campaign staff or Loaned Executive  
Give employees their pledge cards and ask
for a contribution
Calculate your organization’s giving potential
(see page 7 of 2007 Coordinator Toolkit)
 
Implement management-level solicitation for
leadership giving
Identify which “best practices” are not yet part of
your organization’s campaign and incorporate as
many as possible (see page 11 of 2007 Coordinator Toolkit)
 
After the Campaign
Set goals and strategies, kickoff and end dates  
Collect all pledge cards and contributions. Consider
using the “Every Dollar Matters” pledge form for
those who have not pledged
Meet with CEO or top management to discuss ways
they can or will be involved in the campaign
 
Review all paper pledges for completeness
Meet with payroll department to verify payroll
deduction procedures
 
Turn in all pledges to campaign staff or
Loaned Executive using Contribution Report
Envelopes
Set up a tour of an agency or arrange for an
agency speaker (click here).
 
Thank each person who took the time to
listen with a payroll stuffer, e-mail, voicemail
or letter
Order campaign materials at least two weeks prior
to your kickoff date (click here).
 
Attend the United Way Community Campaign Victory Celebration on November 14
