On October 18, 2005, 28 local United Ways and one state organization became recipients of the first awards from the United Way Hurricane Response and Recovery Fund. The grants total more than $4.2 million of the more than $8 million in contributions made to the fund to date.  The communities receiving the grants span the Gulf Coast from Texas to Alabama.  The fund will award additional grants within the next few weeks.

There are three United Way of America hurricane response funds:
The United Way Hurricane Katrina Response Fund
The United Way Hurricane Response and Recovery Fund and
The United Way Hurricane Rita Fund.
All gifts through the funds will be allocated for both front-line disaster relief and long-term recovery needs as determined by local United Ways in affected areas in coordination with a vast network of human services agencies and volunteer centers.

To give directly to any of the three United Way Hurricane Funds, click here to make a secure online gift.
